Gates built, hung and automated by one certified crew

Thomas Fence has built estate gates and automated driveways across Northwest Arkansas since 1993. We are one of the few fence contractors in the region with the CGAT designation, so the gate, the operator, the safety devices and the access control all come from the same licensed crew. No hand-offs between contractors, and no gap in who is responsible.

Automated gates, for every movement style

Homes, businesses, storage yards and industrial sites all get the same attention to the operator, the safety devices and the way the gate actually moves. We install and repair automation on swing, cantilever, V-track and vertical pivot gates.

  • Swing gate operators
  • Cantilever and V-track slide gate operators
  • Vertical pivot and lift gates
  • Keypads, remotes and phone entry
  • Operator repair and replacement

Estate gates, measured on your opening

Custom entrance gates in ornamental steel, aluminum, vinyl, chain link or wood, swinging or sliding. Each one is measured on site and built for the property, and each is designed automation-ready so there are no surprises if you add an operator later.

Recent estate work includes a double swing rail gate in Springdale, ornamental steel in Bentonville, a cantilever gate in Lowell and a custom gate on a rural property in Garfield.

Why CGAT certification matters

CGAT stands for Certified Gate Automation Technician. The American Fence Association issues it, and it requires demonstrated knowledge of gate operator mechanics, UL 325 safety standards, access control systems and sound installation practice.

It matters because an automated gate is a heavy, fast-moving machine. An operator installed without the right safety devices can cause serious injury. A certified installer knows the required entrapment protection, the force limits and where the safety devices belong on every gate type. Thomas Fence is one of the few fence contractors in Northwest Arkansas that holds the certification.

Operator mechanics
The right operator for the gate weight, the opening width and the power available.
UL 325 safety
Photo eyes, safety edges or loop detectors, specified for the gate type and installed with the system, not added afterward.
Access control
Keypads, remotes, intercoms and app-controlled entry matched to how the property is used.
Repair of gates we did not build
Our Automated Gate Repair Service assesses and repairs failed operators and malfunctioning safety devices, any brand or style.

From the first call to a working gate

  1. 01

    Free estimate

Call (479) 636-4732. A gate specialist walks the opening, the terrain and the power situation, then writes up a detailed estimate.

  2. 02

    Approve and sign

Accept by phone, email or through your sales representative. We send the contract for your signature, and standard gate installations need no deposit.

  3. 03

    On the schedule

Once signed, the job is typically 1 to 3 weeks out. We call 811 to mark underground utilities before any digging starts.

  4. 04

    Install and commission

The crew sets posts in concrete, hangs the gate, installs the operator and safety devices, and commissions the access control. We walk you through it before we leave.

Gate questions, answered

Swing gates, cantilever slide gates, V-track slide gates, vertical pivot gates and vertical lift gates, in ornamental steel, aluminum, vinyl, chain link and wood. Every movement style is available for homes and for commercial properties.

Most swing and slide gates can be automated if they are properly sized and the post framing is adequate. Thomas Fence checks automation-readiness at the estimate visit. When we build a new gate, we design it with automation in mind from the start so there are no surprises later.

A complete system includes the operator, the UL 325 safety devices (photo eyes, safety edges or loop detectors, depending on the gate type), the access control and all the wiring. Thomas Fence handles the whole installation with no subcontracting.

PIN keypads, remote transmitters, intercom systems and app-controlled entry, including LiftMaster MyQ and similar. We help you pick the system that fits your property type, your security level and the number of people using the gate.

Not in every city. Seven Northwest Arkansas cities require a fence permit: Bella Vista, Bentonville, Gravette, Gentry, Lincoln, Prairie Grove and Tontitown. Springdale, Rogers, Fayetteville and Siloam Springs do not. Requirements can change, so verify with your city. Pulling the permit is the property owner's responsibility, and we are glad to walk you through it.
